Thompson’s sub-contract department is believed to the largest facility of its kind in Europe, offering capacity on the largest number of friction welding machines under one roof with the widest range of capability.
Industries serviced not only include aerospace, automotive, construction, electrical, medical, mining, nuclear, scientific and cryogenic but also gas, oil and water exploration and power generation.
The department can provide a cost-effective and versatile supply option, ensuring small, medium and large batch sizes can be accommodated as either scheduled or one-off requirements with quick turnaround times. Prototype work is also regularly undertaken.
As an award-winning manufacturer of friction welding machines, Thompson has extensive experience of joining similar, dissimilar and unusual material combinations for a wide range of applications and varied component geometry.
The sub-contract operation uniquely benefits from immediate and on-site support from Thompson’s spares, service, design, engineering and metallurgy departments. Specialised testing and reporting is available thanks to a retained link with a materials science laboratory based at Aston University, Birmingham.
